Floating Markets |Bangkok Thailand

designing with confidence blog

This morning, I will be taking you along on a trip by car 40 miles southeast of Bangkok, Thailand to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market where fruits and vegetables are sold from boats.

It’s 6:30 am and about 90 degrees at the Floating Market this morning.
Floating Market in Thailand.
Restaurant, street stalls and families make daily trips to the Floating Market for their produce.

Floating Markets are chiefly found in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.  In the past the areas next to the rivers were the first to be populated.  Using a boat was a very inventive idea to sell their products.  Another reason is that a large population in these countries live on the water and some have never stepped foot on land.  Everything they need can be found on the water like hardware stores, barber shops, animals, schools and the list goes on.  But that is another blog.

Thailand Floating Markets of Thailand.
Floating Market’s vegetables and fruits are grown from the nearby gardens or from local orchards. The women do the selling while the men tend the land. Really, I have never seen a man selling in the boats in the pass 25 years I have gone to the Floating Markets. It must be a job for women only.

Local dishes are cooked and prepared by the vendors from their floating kitchens located right on the boat.

Sometimes, you will see ladies fighting for a place to sell. Notice this persons face! She is fighting off another boat that is banging into her’s.

Here is a photo of early morning actively on the water.    People are out and going to do whatever they do! Instead of cars they are in boats!

Thailand has a special place in my heart.  My husband and I have travelled to Thailand almost every year for the past 25 years.  The Asian culture has been a big influence on who I am today.  Please put Thailand on your bucket list.  Know you will love the people as much as I do!

Thanks for stopping by.  See ya in two weeks!  Sign up below for the blog to come to your email box.
