Dress up your dining room chairs with slipcovers that make the dining area look stylish and unique. WINK WINK! Let’s take a look at some of the questions that needs to be answered to design a slipcovers that will compliment the decor. Is the room casual or formal? What colors will best compliment the room? How much embellishments can the room carry?
This room has an elegantly understated feel. Why is this? The answer is in the details of the room. The overly large chandelier, pine table, heavy silk check slipcover fabric and the casual feel of the table setting. The simple scallop design seems to be in keeping with the feel of the room.
Consider the style of the chair when deciding on how you want your slipcover to look. The corners of the slipcover are split to allow the cover to be placed on the seat area.
The room has a simple English look. The stripe fabric slipcover design works well with the needlepoint rug. The ties are an interesting touch to give that WINK factor.This photo is showing a one piece slipcover, but sometimes the seat can be upholstered and then the back piece can be slid on the chair in one piece. Another idea would be to close the pleat and replace the ties with a monogram.Using a long skirt on the french chairs gives the room more of a comfortable and detail look. This style works well with the glass table. WINK WINK! It really shows off all the fabric and labor used to get the look. A small check found on the back of the chairs add a calmness to all the floral fabric and the braid at the bottom repeats the colors in the fabric which gives the chair extra details.The slipcovered chair is a good example of a casual cottage look. One thing to always think about is how the fabric works with the chair finish. The off-white in the plaid compliments the color of the chair.
Because I have a whole heap of ideas using slipcovers, I am including a few extra example of slipcovers for chairs other than just the dining room.
This could be one of those chairs that gives a touch of whimsy at a dressing table. It is so special in design that it could stand alone in any setting. WINK WINK!Veiwing the chair from the side gives a better look at the design. It is a stunning idea. There are a lot of WINKS here.Very interesting design that sort of forms to the lines of the chair. This makes a great desk chair or a bedroom side chair. Using creative fabric always gets a WINK!
The bar stool shirt flaps attached to the stool should have a stiffer with a lining to keep the flaps from wrinkling. Maybe, use a bright solid color or design under the flap. Of course, this design transfers to a chair.
You can see from my examples that you can make your cover look as elegant or practical that fits the situation. Most upholstery or seamstress shops can make slipcovers.
One last thought………if you have an old family wooden chair that does not fit the decor, consider designing an interesting cover and bring it out of the closet. Actually, I have a small ladies Victorian cane rocker that belongs to my husband’s family that has been in storage for years. Guess I will put that on my list!
